Rāga Chitra

Raaga Chitra celebrates music, the Indian melodic raga system that enriches dance with infinite possibilities of imagery and emotional contexts. The relationship between dance and a raga is multifaceted. Raga Chitra presents some of them.

In the start is Call of Dawn. Three musical compositions in Raga Chakravaaka or Ahir Bhairav create three emotional palettes through Vigraha-Oned, based on the 8th century Ardhanariswara Stotram by Adi Shankaracharya followed by a 19th century Bengali poem by Kazi Nozrul Islam. A non-narrative Odissi Pallavi by Sukanta Kundu from 2021 concludes this excerpt.

This will be followed by DashAvtaar. Ten epic episodes about the victory of good over evil are set to music in Raga Mohana.

Finally, Sitaharan, a breathtaking musical depiction of an episode from the great epic Ramayana, composed by Sri Tulsi Das, where alternating ragas support the dramatic depiction of the various crucial moments of Sita's abduction.
